I would like to share some minds about psychological analysis. All I write is based on my own experience and I do not have any intention to demean a tremendous job made by psychologist all around the world.
When you go to a psychologist who uses method of free associations, all you basically do is to tell about your feelings, frustrations and fears and under the guidance of the psychologist you get in touch with your hidden feelings and thoughts and start to understand thinking mechanisms. However, after some years of such analysis you start to realize that all these hidden feelings and fear will never end. As soon as you are ready with one issue from the past, another one emerges almost immediately, maybe even more powerful or scary. It could be illustrated by following metaphor. Imagine you walk through a long street, long as your life. And while you go down the street you feel different smells. Some smells are nice and pleasant, some are neutral, and some are just terrible and disgusting. And these smells are always there, and always will be, no matter how far you go. The further you travel, the more you get to used to these smells, you learn to ignore them, and just go forward. However, it does not work like this for everybody. Some get frustrated due to existence of bad smell, some get scary about intensity of the smell or amount of the smell. So many are stuck somewhere around these scary smells and cannot proceed further. Then you need help and invite your psychologist to go down the street together. What you do then, is that you stop at some smell place and start to analyze that smell. You acknowledge that smell really exists, try to understand the cause of that smell, see how you react on that smell and why you react like this. You use long time, maybe several years on same problem. And then when you think you are ready with that one, and you take next step, you meet another smell, maybe even more powerful and all analysis starts over.
Actually, you will never be able to solve all the thoughts and situations emerging in your head. The nature of the mind is to produce thoughts. Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 50 000 and 80 000 thoughts per day, or couple of thousand per hour. Such great number of thoughts and incredible interconnections between the thoughts makes it impossible to understand all these thoughts and to analyze them. It is important to understand that the mind will continue to work and to produce different thoughts all your life. It is also important to realize that you do not think your occasional thoughts, in the same way that you do not beat your heart or you do not activate your liver. Every organ performs its function in the body on its own and you do not need to think about it. Our problem is that we think about thoughts. We categorize thoughts as good and bad, shameful and joyful and start to avoid or suppress what is unacceptable for us and promote and enhance what we feel is good for us. With such amount of thoughts produced every day no wonder we get entangled, frustrated and very often depressed. We react on many of our thoughts thus adding more to already chaotic state of the mind.
Instead of reacting to our mind, it is possible to go down your street in much easier way. First, you have to acknowledge that your mind is producing and will produce a lot of different thoughts every day. All thoughts are equally neutral. There are no shameful, or sinful thoughts. Everything is just our reaction to our own thoughts. Then, you have to understand that you are the owner of your life, and no thoughts can actually stop you from proceeding further down the street. All these occasional thoughts are not so important to waste your time analyzing them. And no thoughts can be stronger than you. You have to realize your path and just move on. The more you move, the less important all these thoughts will become. You will learn how to just ignore all of them when you will be aware about the nature of mind and have a clear vision of your path. There is no need to fight with thoughts or overthink. Do not fight with your nature. You are who you are. The most important thing in your life is to understand who you really are and connect with your real Self.
Note: If you suffer from mental disorders, you have to follow therapy prescribed by your doctor.
